The image, drawn from the family’s private collection, depicts Diana alongside her two-year-old son in 1984, relaxing amid a vibrant field of wildflowers at Highgrove in Gloucestershire.
In the Instagram post, William writes: “Remembering my mother, today and every day. Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W”
Princess Diana’s Legacy
Diana passed away at age 36 in a tragic car crash in 1997. At the time, William was 15 and his brother Prince Harry was 12. Both princes have publicly discussed the profound emotional challenges they faced after losing their mother so young.
She would have celebrated her 65th birthday on July 1 this year.
Royal Family’s Mother’s Day Message
The Royal Family’s official X account also extends warm wishes for Mother’s Day, sharing a curated selection of family photos. The message states: “Wishing Mothers everywhere, and those who might be missing their Mums today, a restful Mothering Sunday.”
Among the images is a black-and-white photograph from 1953 showing the late Queen seated on a bench with the King and Princess Anne at Balmoral, Scotland. The Queen’s corgi, Sue, appears in the background. Notably, the King’s younger brothers, Andrew and Prince Edward, are absent as they had not yet been born.
Additional photos feature the late Queen Elizabeth II with the Queen Mother, and Camilla alongside her late mother, Rosalind Shand.
