Former Reality TV Star Faces Serious Child Molestation Charges
Joseph Duggar, a 31-year-old former cast member of the reality series 19 Kids and Counting, faces charges of child molestation after an alleged incident involving a nine-year-old girl during a 2020 vacation in Panama City, Florida.
Bay County Sheriff’s Office announced the charges on March 18, including molestation of a victim under 12 years old and lewd or lascivious behavior. The now-14-year-old victim detailed the events to investigators.
Details of the Alleged Incident
Officials report that Duggar initially asked the girl to sit on his lap. As the vacation progressed, he reportedly invited her to sit next to him on a couch, covering them with a blanket. During this time, Duggar allegedly manipulated the victim’s underwear, grazed her genitals, and rubbed her thighs.
The victim stated that Duggar later apologized, after which the incidents ceased.
Arrest and Investigation
Duggar has been booked into Washington County jail in Arkansas and awaits extradition to Bay County. The charges stem from a forensic interview with the victim prompted by reports of past sexual abuse.
Her father confronted Duggar about the allegations, and officials say Duggar admitted his actions to the father and Tontitown detectives, leading to the end of the alleged abuse.
Family Background
The Duggar family gained fame on the TLC show, which ran from 2008 to 2015. Joseph’s brother, Josh Duggar, is currently serving a 12-and-a-half-year prison sentence after his 2021 conviction for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material.
