Justin Timberlake, 45, appears unsteady during field sobriety tests in bodycam video from his June 2024 DWI arrest in Sag Harbor, New York. The singer, who was on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour and later accepted a plea deal, underwent the tests after police pulled him over.
Initial Contact and Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test
In the footage, Timberlake stands behind his vehicle as an officer provides instructions for the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) eye test. He sways slightly while following the officer’s directions with a pen light.
The officer then directs him to the walk-and-turn test, suggesting he use nearby skid marks as a guide. Timberlake asks, “Do you want this one or this one?” The officer responds, “It’s going to be the one of your preference, okay?” Timberlake replies, “Whatever you want man.”
Walk-and-Turn Test Challenges
Another officer approaches, and Timberlake asks, “How you doing man?” The officer says, “I’m doing good, how are you?” Timberlake answers, “Good,” with a small smile.
The first officer instructs him to place his left foot on an imaginary line, then his right foot in front, heel to toe. Timberlake attempts it but stumbles quickly. As the officer repeats the instructions, Timberlake raises his hands and says, “You guys… guys. I’m just following my friends back to my house. I’m not, like, I’m not doing anything – I’m just following my friends back to my house.”
The officer asks, “Well, will you do this test?” Timberlake agrees, “Sure,” and seeks clarification: “Sorry, I’ve never done this so, I’m just…”
Officers explain to keep arms at his sides, take nine heel-to-toe steps forward, turn, and repeat. Timberlake positions himself but starts early. “He’s going to tell you when you’re supposed to begin,” the second officer notes. “You’re all good! He just wants you to be in position.”
Once started, Timberlake takes one step and veers right. “I’m sorry, I’m a little nervous,” he tells the officers before finishing the test.
