Earlier on Wednesday, Aiken, 55, appears shaken on the Today show, discussing the sudden loss. “This has been a very difficult day for me and everyone in the MAFS family and her nearest and dearest. It’s tragic, and it happened very quickly,” he shares.
He recounts a final visit: “I had the chance to see Mel and her husband Gareth one last time. It was very emotional and very special.” Aiken notes the aggressive cancer: “She was such a fighter, never complained, a breath of fresh air and a shining light.”
Reflecting on her impact, Aiken calls her a “real role model” and “voice of reason.” He feels “very privileged” to work with her for a decade: “She was my partner in crime. I couldn’t have done it without her. It won’t be the same.”
