Oxford Women’s Team Ends Eight-Year Drought

Oxford’s women’s crew secured a thrilling victory over Cambridge on Saturday, April 4, snapping an eight-race losing streak. Cox Louis Corrigan, caught up in the moment, shouted, “What a f***ing awesome day!” right after crossing the finish line, not realizing the microphones were live.

Team captain Heidi Long expressed her emotions, stating: “I’m quite overwhelmed.” This marks Oxford’s first Women’s Boat Race win since 2016, sparking celebrations among fans and alumni.

On-Air Apologies from Hosts

Host Jamie Laing quickly addressed viewers, apologizing directly to the camera for the inappropriate language. Clare Balding, covering the men’s race, followed with her own apology to maintain decorum during the broadcast.

Former Oxford rower and three-time Olympic gold medalist Pete Reed, 44, praised the team: “That was so incredible. They’re making the memories of a lifetime. I am so proud of them and hopefully that’s a change of momentum for the Dark Blues.”

Men’s Race Sees Cambridge Dominate

In the men’s event, Cambridge asserted early dominance, building an insurmountable lead that Oxford couldn’t overcome. Umpires issued multiple warnings to Oxford before signaling Cambridge’s victory with white flags.
