Tyson Fury remains unfazed by his father John’s recent criticism as he prepares for his comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this Saturday. The 37-year-old heavyweight aims to pave the way for a long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Addressing Family Tensions

John Fury, 60, initially praised his son’s return at a February press conference but later criticized the team as under-qualified yes-men and distanced himself from the Netflix broadcast. Fury takes it in stride.

Fury stated, “I’m unaware of what has happened but he’s entitled to his opinion. And I’m sure he’ll change it a million times over and over again. I haven’t really paid him any attention to it because I take it with a pinch of salt. He might have been upset, he might have been a bit down or have been depressed. I don’t know what he was going through, whatever.”

Indifferent to Attendance

Asked if his father will attend, Fury replied, “I don’t know. I don’t care. I’ve got business to take care of and who’s in the crowd is not an important thing to me at all. All I am going to be thinking about is Arslanbek Makhmudov and I’m looking forward to it and getting the job done.”

Anthony Joshua, 36, recently attended Derek Chisora’s fight against Deontay Wilder. Speculation suggests Joshua may appear at Tottenham again, but Fury shows no concern. “If the man comes, fair play. If he doesn’t, I understand. Everyone in life does what they have to do, for them. They don’t do it for other people, they do it for themselves, especially in business. And if he comes, he comes. And, if he doesn’t, it’s no skin off my nose. If my dad is there, great. If he isn’t, also great. Same with anybody else,” Fury said.

Pushing for Joshua Fight

British fans hope for a Fury victory followed by a ring face-off with Joshua. Fury urges Joshua to prioritize their bout. “That fight was supposed to happen so many times over the last 10 years. But then someone has had one more fight in between and someone has got knocked out or injured. AJ should forget Wilder, the man is a shell of himself. Forget anyone else. Let me get through Saturday and then we will do the fight before the end of the year. Let’s do it, let’s dance. I think we should get this fight on as soon as possible, in case something happens in between,” he explained.

Joshua’s last major win came against Otto Wallin in December 2023, followed by victories over Jake Paul and Francis Ngannou, but a loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Fury, returning after 16 months out, emphasizes heavyweight unpredictability: “The problem is, in heavyweight boxing, anything can go wrong, there are no easy fights. And if you get knocked upside down, it’s finished, it’s done. I want the fight next and I am sure that AJ feels the same.”
