Collingwood midfielder Beau McCreery has dismissed rumors of a $7 million contract offer from the expansion Tasmania Devils. The 25-year-old, who has played 102 games since debuting in 2021 and remains contracted to the Magpies until 2027, addressed the speculation during radio interviews ahead of the Anzac Day clash with Essendon at the MCG.
McCreery’s Response to Speculation
McCreery expressed surprise at the reports during an appearance on Triple M, stating he had no knowledge of any formal approach from Tasmania. “I was just as rattled when you were when you heard it,” he said. “No, not personally, they haven’t [reached out]. Obviously, it’s big news to hear, but I’m still contracted to Collingwood for the next two years… so, my eyes are on the prize there and obviously… we’ve got a big game this weekend.”
In a separate interview on Fox Footy, McCreery reiterated his unawareness of any offer. “I don’t know about an offer… I was about to put the phone down and my missus tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘What’s the go here?’ I’m still contracted. I love the Pies,” he added.
Speaking to Nova, McCreery noted he had not heard directly from Tasmania but was unsure if his manager had received contact.
Tasmania Devils Expansion Background
Reports indicate Tasmania Devils have targeted McCreery for their inaugural 2028 AFL list, eyeing a seven-year deal at $1 million per season. The AFL approved the club’s entry in December following parliamentary approval for the Macquarie Point Stadium in Hobart.
Collingwood teammate Nick Daicos, who recently reached his 100-game milestone, also appears on Tasmania’s wishlist of interests.
