Labour Braces for Election Setbacks

Analysts predict significant losses for Labour in the upcoming ballots for English councils, as well as elections in the Scottish and Welsh Parliaments. The results highlight shifting voter priorities amid national debates.

Police Chief Addresses Rising Antisemitism

Following the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London on Wednesday, Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley urged reflection on societal antisemitic attitudes. Speaking on LBC, he stated: “It’s two things. There’s the practical about being alert, so don’t be alarmed, don’t be afraid, but be alert and help us by giving us information.”

Sir Mark Rowley added: “Secondly, I think everybody should reflect on the levels of antisemitic attitudes in society and we should all call it out, because these are British Jews. Israeli foreign policy, however much you may like or dislike that, that is not relevant in terms of attitudes to British Jews, who should be treated like any other British citizen.”

Home Office Minister on Pro-Palestine Marches

A Home Office minister described pro-Palestine marches as hijacked by individuals promoting division and hatred. Alex Davies-Jones told Times Radio: “I think we have seen antisemitic activity in these marches. That is a fact.”

She continued: “We have seen chants of death, calls for global intifada, and that is wrong. But people do have the right to protest the actions of Israel, if that’s what they deem fit. And I think it’s really, really important here that we recognise that not everybody on these marches is antisemitic.”

Davies-Jones emphasized: “They have been hijacked by certain individuals who are seeking to cause division and hatred in our country, and are using these marches and are using these positions to cause fear and intimidation.”

Met Police Reviews Pro-Palestine Events

Scotland Yard plans to assess upcoming pro-Palestine marches following the Golders Green attack and the elevation of the UK terrorism threat level to severe. Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor noted: “As part of our review into the change in the threat level, policing will be reviewing all events across the country.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer faces growing calls to impose bans on such protests amid heightened security concerns.
