Two fluffy tawny owl chicks huddled together on a tree branch in East Dorset, remaining calm while their mother stepped away to hunt for food. Perched high above the forest floor at a local nature reserve, the young owlets showed no fear during the brief absence.
Dramatic Encounter Unfolds
The serene scene quickly intensified when a crow spotted the unguarded chicks and swooped in aggressively. The bold bird attempted to peck at one vulnerable owlet, creating a tense moment in the treetops.
Fortunately, the crow abandoned its effort and flew off without success. The targeted chick emerged unscathed, nestling safely beside its sibling as the drama concluded.
Captured by Local Photographer
Wildlife photographer Andrew Pattenden documented the entire sequence, highlighting the raw dynamics of forest life. These tawny owlets demonstrated remarkable resilience amid the sudden threat.
