Actress Eliza Dushku, widely recognized for her role as the fierce Faith in the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has resurfaced in a rare public update, shedding light on her significantly different life eight years after stepping away from Hollywood. Dushku, 45, has transitioned from acting to a career in mental health counseling and trauma care.
A Marathon for a Cause
In a recent social media post, Dushku shared a video of herself strolling through Fenway Park in her native Boston. Sporting a more natural look with lighter, longer brunette hair and minimal makeup, she discussed her involvement in an upcoming marathon organized by a nonprofit she now works with. The event, dubbed “Run to Home Base,” aims to support local veterans.
Speaking with Boston Globe Media CEO Linda Pizzuti Henry, Dushku expressed a mix of excitement and nerves about participating in the marathon. “I got to be honest, I’m getting a little nervous,” she admitted. “I run after my kids, that’s about the extent of it.” She encouraged others to join, emphasizing that walking is also a valid way to contribute.
Inspiration from Personal Journey
Reports indicate that Dushku’s decision to pursue a career in mental health was deeply influenced by her own experiences. Approximately seven years ago, she was diagnosed with PTSD and underwent treatment, which inspired her to dedicate herself to helping others navigate similar challenges.
In June 2025, Dushku earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, specializing in addiction, recovery, and trauma from Lesley University. She also obtained a certification in psychedelic-assisted therapy. She is now actively working with patients, utilizing holistic psychology and psychedelic therapy.
A New Chapter Beyond Acting
Earlier this month, Dushku returned to her alma mater to receive an honorary doctorate and deliver a commencement speech. Her address focused on her new career path, her work with veterans and their families at Home Base, and the profound impact of her journey.
Dushku’s acting career began at the age of nine, with notable roles including Missy in the 2000 comedy Bring It On and, of course, Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel. Her last acting credit was in the 2017 film The Saint.
In late 2025, Dushku confirmed her retirement from acting after a 25-year career. She reflected on her time in the entertainment industry, acknowledging both the positive and challenging aspects, and expressing gratitude for the people she met and worked with.
She also shared her journey of 17 years of sobriety in November 2025 and discussed how psychedelic-assisted therapy for PTSD was a significant catalyst for her current career choice. Previously, Dushku had spoken about a sexual harassment settlement with CBS related to her role on Bull and an alleged assault during the filming of True Lies when she was a child.

In 2018, Dushku married Peter Palandjian, a billionaire businessman and former tennis player. The couple shares two sons, Bourne and Bodie.
