Tragedy Strikes as CBS Sports Production Assistant Dies Following Accident
The CBS Sports community is in mourning following the tragic death of production assistant Bryce Adair, who passed away Saturday from injuries sustained in a car accident. Adair, 31, was working with the broadcaster at the PGA Tour’s prestigious Memorial Tournament when the incident occurred.
Adair was admitted to Riverside Methodist Hospital in Ohio on Wednesday night after what has been described as a severe single-vehicle collision. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.
Tributes Pour In for Beloved Colleague
The news of Adair’s passing has deeply affected many within the network. Legendary commentator Jim Nantz, visibly emotional, announced Adair’s death on air during the tournament’s broadcast on Saturday.
“Be patient with us for a minute here,” Nantz stated, pausing to compose himself. “A huge loss earlier today within our CBS Sports family. Trust me when I tell you that in over 40 years I have never seen our crew of 250 people coming to a broadcast like this one carrying as much grief as they are now.”
Nantz continued, paying heartfelt tribute to Adair. “This morning, an incredibly bright, charismatic teammate – 31-year-old Bryce Adair – passed away from injuries suffered Wednesday night in a car accident while here working the Memorial Tournament. Bryce came to us from Augusta, Georgia in 2017 and right away he was embraced by everyone in the production and technical teams. Everyone loved him. Every day Bryce would greet you with a warm smile and a caring, compassionate spirit. He did many things for us. He won an Emmy for our Super Bowl broadcast. The world was his and he deserved the world. I’m the one who has a chance to tell you how much we loved him. I want to say to his mother, Michelle, thank you for sharing your remarkable son with us. We loved him and he will never be forgotten.”
CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson also shared her grief on social media. “Our CBS family lost a great friend and colleague today,” she wrote. “Bryce Adair brought joy to our crew, he was a kind soul and a true gentleman. I will remember him for his infectious smile, his love for the Eagles and music. I will miss our high fives on the sidelines and football talks in the car. He will be sorely missed.”
Community Support and Tournament Context
A GoFundMe campaign, originally established to assist Adair with medical expenses following the accident, has garnered significant support, raising approximately $67,000 by Saturday evening.
A special tribute to Adair was also featured at halftime during CBS’s broadcast of the WNBA game between the New York Liberty and the Indiana Fever on Saturday night.
The Memorial Tournament, held at Muirfield Village, is a prominent event on the professional golf calendar. This year’s field includes top players such as current Masters champion Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and recent PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai.
