A man has entered a guilty plea in federal court concerning the fatal shootings of a prominent Minnesota House Democrat and her husband, as well as the wounding of a state senator and his wife. Vance Boelter admitted to the charges on Thursday, following an agreement with prosecutors who will not pursue the death penalty in the case.
Guilty Plea in High-Profile Killings
Boelter was indicted for the murders of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman. He also faced charges for the non-fatal shootings of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman. The violent incidents occurred in the early morning hours of June 14, 2025.
Deception Led to Fatal Encounter
Investigators found that Boelter arrived at the victims’ residence disguised as a police officer. He reportedly utilized a vehicle designed to resemble an official police car to gain access.
