Adidas Unveils ‘Choose Scotland’ Campaign Featuring Football Stars
Thirty years after the iconic opening of Danny Boyle’s film *Trainspotting*, a new advertisement from Adidas is paying homage to the cult classic, urging fans to ‘Choose Scotland.’ The humorous clip, released ahead of Scotland’s World Cup match against Haiti, features a modern take on the film’s memorable monologue, narrated by Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi.
Football Greats and Musical Talent in Spotlight
The campaign showcases prominent Scottish football figures, including midfielder Scott McTominay, whose crucial bicycle kick goal secured the national team’s qualification for the World Cup in America. Team captain Andy Robertson also features in the advert. Unlike the gritty urban backdrop of the original film’s opening, McTominay is depicted cruising through the sun-drenched streets of Naples, where he plays for the Italian club Napoli. He sports sunglasses and a leather jacket, all set to the original movie soundtrack.
During his journey, McTominay even snatches a slice of pizza from an outdoor diner. Meanwhile, Lewis Capaldi, shown packing his Scotland jersey, draws parallels between the two nations with lines like, ‘Choose tatty scones on a Tuesday and pizza on a Wednesday.’
Author Irvine Welsh Makes Special Appearance
Adding to the *Trainspotting* connection, the author of the original novel, Irvine Welsh, makes a special cameo appearance in the one-minute clip. The advert has quickly gained traction, amassing over one million views within its first few hours of release.
