A sudden storm on Saturday led to a precarious situation for two kayakers who became disoriented near Waubaushene. Emergency services were alerted around 5:30 p.m. to the missing pair, identified as a 29-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, who were caught in the turbulent waters.
Extensive Search Operation Launched
A multi-agency response was swiftly mobilized to locate the individuals. Participating in the extensive search were Tay Fire Department, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, County of Simcoe Paramedics, and the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The OPP utilized its marine unit, patrol officers, and a helicopter to cover a wide area.
Kayakers Safely Reach Shore
During the ongoing search efforts, the kayakers managed to reach the shoreline independently. They then proceeded to a nearby residence. Police later met with the pair to confirm their well-being. Both individuals were found to be unharmed and sustained no injuries.
Severe Weather Advisory in Effect
The incident occurred under challenging weather conditions. Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm watch for a significant portion of Simcoe County on Saturday, indicating the potential for hazardous weather.
