Singer Remains Critically Ill After Health Scare
Renowned singer Bonnie Tyler has reportedly emerged from a medically induced coma following a cardiac arrest suffered last month in Portugal. The 75-year-old Welsh star’s health update comes as her representatives confirmed she is no longer in a coma, though she continues to be in serious condition.
Health Update Follows Months of Concern
In May, Tyler’s management had issued a statement indicating that the singer was seriously ill but stable in a Portuguese hospital. At that time, her doctors expressed optimism for a full recovery. Her family also addressed widespread speculation, clarifying that certain individuals were not authorized to speak on their behalf and urging the media to cease publishing unsubstantiated rumors.
A long-time friend of the singer, Liberto Mealha, shared that friends were holding out hope for positive news. Tyler had been placed in an induced coma following life-saving surgery in Portugal. Sources indicate she underwent emergency bowel surgery for a perforated intestine.
Mealha described the situation as serious, stating, “The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far it’s not that good.” It is understood that the cardiac arrest occurred after medical professionals attempted to bring her out of the precautionary coma.
Timeline of Health Concerns
A spokesperson for the singer had previously confirmed that doctors induced a coma to aid her recovery, requesting privacy for Tyler and her loved ones during this challenging period. Further statements were promised as more information became available.
Reports suggest Tyler began feeling unwell approximately a month prior to her hospitalization in April. After a period of bed rest at her Algarve home, her husband, Robert Sullivan, reportedly took her to a private hospital, from which she was later transferred to Faro.
The singer, known for hits like “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and her participation in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, is believed to have been admitted to Faro Hospital on April 30. Initially, her condition was described as stable in an intermediate care unit. However, a subsequent deterioration in her health led to her transfer to the intensive care unit.
Earlier statements from her team confirmed that the surgery for her intestinal issues had been successful and that she was recuperating. Despite the initial positive outcome of the surgery, her health took a critical turn, necessitating the coma and subsequent cardiac arrest.
