UFC President Dana White has offered a definitive stance on the organization hosting dedicated Pride Night events, stating a clear lack of interest in such initiatives. While the UFC has a history of celebrating various cultural observances, such as its UFC Noche events honoring Mexican Independence Day, White remains firm in his position.

White’s Position on UFC Pride Nights

During a recent interview, White addressed the prospect of UFC Pride Night celebrations. He commented on the diversity of the UFC roster, acknowledging the presence of LGBTQ+ fighters. “I’m staring at my roster of top 15 fighters. You know, I’m assuming we have some gay fighters. I don’t know how many of them are openly [gay]. I know that we have gay female fighters. I don’t give a s***. I don’t care what you are, who you are, what you do. We don’t talk about that, any of that stuff,” White stated. He further elaborated, referencing a UFC t-shirt featuring a rainbow flag, adding, “Everybody, do your own thing. I’m just not into it.”

Past UFC Pride Merchandise

The comments come amidst fan discussions pointing to past UFC merchandise that prominently featured Pride themes. Approximately a decade ago, the UFC offered t-shirts with the slogan “We are all fighters” in rainbow colors. Some fighters were seen wearing these shirts, designed by the UFC at the time. However, these items do not appear to be currently available for purchase.

Openly LGBTQ+ UFC Fighters

The landscape of openly LGBTQ+ athletes within the UFC has evolved. In March 2023, Jeff Molina became recognized as the first openly bisexual male UFC fighter. He had previously worn Pride Month shorts to support the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada. The UFC also has several openly LGBTQ+ female fighters, including former two-division champion Amanda Nunes.

White on Fighter Free Speech

In a separate segment of the interview, White also addressed his views on fighter conduct and free speech, referencing comments made by UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit. Following a fight, Hokit made controversial remarks during an interview about former first lady Michelle Obama. White expressed his disapproval of the fighter’s comments, stating, “You think I’m happy about what Josh Hokit said? I’m trying to unify the country and he goes out and says something absolutely stupid like he did that night, but I’m a believer of free speech too.”
