U.S. Secret Service places agent on depart who wrote unfavorable Fb put up about Charlie Kirk, officers say

The U.S. Secret Service placed on depart an agent who expressed unfavorable opinions on social media about slain conservative influencer Charlie Kirk and revoked his safety clearance, two U.S. officers mentioned.

Anthony Pough wrote in a Fb put up Wednesday that Kirk had “spewed hate and racism on his present … on the finish of the day, you reply to GOD, and communicate issues into existence. You’ll be able to solely circumvent karma, she doesnt depart.”

In a memo to workers that was shared with CBS Information, Secret Service Director Sean Curran mentioned politically motivated assaults in america are on the rise, and workers should not exacerbate the issue. 

“Let me be clear, politically motivated assaults in our nation are rising — seemingly day-after-day,” Curran wrote. “The women and men of the Secret Service have to be centered on being the answer, not including to the issue.” 

Actual Clear Politics first reported on Pough’s social media put up on Kirk. Pough couldn’t instantly be reached for remark.

A U.S. Secret Service spokesperson mentioned in an announcement, “The U.S. Secret Service won’t tolerate conduct that violates our code of conduct. This worker was instantly placed on administrative depart, and an investigation has begun.”

Curran’s memo, despatched Thursday night time and addressed to “the Males and Girls of the Secret Service,” mentioned he was reminding staff “we swear an oath to these we defend to conduct ourselves with the very best requirements of conduct on and off obligation.”
