IBBY and UNESCO Launch International Name for Books in Indigenous and Endangered Languages

IBBY (Worldwide Board on Books for Younger Individuals) and UNESCO have launched a worldwide name for books to be included of their Assortment of Outstanding Books for Younger Readers in Indigenous and Endangered Languages. The purpose of the Assortment is to “defend linguistic range within the subject of kids’s literature” (www.ibby.org). The Assortment might be introduced on the fortieth IBBY World Congress, which is able to happen August 6-9, 2026 in Ottawa, Canada. The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2025.

Laws and Standards

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

– Books for youngsters and younger individuals (image books, novels, biographies, graphic novels and nonfiction) presenting high-quality requirements when it comes to textual content and/or illustration;
– Books printed between January 2018 and December 2025;
– Books initially printed in an Indigenous and/or an endangered language, and unique bilingual books together with a minimum of one Indigenous and/or endangered language;
– Books expressing the intention of, or relation to, a number of of the ten outputs of the International Motion Plan of the Worldwide Decade of Indigenous Languages; and
– Books and publications that adhere to UNESCO ideas and respect political neutrality.
