The DVLA implements a ban on 403 car number plates today, coinciding with the launch of new ’26’ registrations for vehicles registered from March 1, 2026. Officials routinely eliminate combinations deemed offensive or provocative during these biannual releases.
Examples of Blocked Combinations
Specialists highlight several withdrawn plates, including TR26 NNY, LE26 ZER, and FA26 OTT. References to conflict also face restrictions, such as TE26 ROR and GO26 WAR. Combinations alluding to UKR or RUS stand unavailable as well.
Past Bans for Context
Recent releases saw 210 combinations removed from ’25’ plates and 436 from ’76’ production, underscoring ongoing efforts to maintain standards.
Industry Perspective
Mark Trimbee, CEO of Regtransfers, comments on the scale: “The release of new number plates brings fresh, appealing combinations to roads, alongside risky ones that require exclusion. This list ranks among the largest recently, yet ample desirable options remain.”
DVLA rules prohibit fitting ’26’ plates to older vehicles, preventing any misrepresentation of a car’s age.
