A federal contractor accused of stealing $46 million in cryptocurrency was arrested within the Caribbean, the FBI introduced.
John Daghita was nabbed Wednesday evening by legislation enforcement on the island of Saint Martin, FBI Director Kash Patel mentioned on social media. Photographs posted on-line by the FBI and Saint Martin police present Daghita, who allegedly stole the crypto from the U.S Marshals Service, being taken away in handcuffs with a swimming pool seen within the background. A separate photograph posted by legislation enforcement exhibits a suitcase full of money.
The pictures present the suitcase surrounded by pc flash drives and a passport. Patel mentioned that the operation was performed in cooperation with the Worldwide Cooperation Group Severe Crime Unit of the French Gendarmerie Nationwide in Saint Martin, and the Groupe d’intervention de la Gendarmerie nationale of Guadeloupe.
It’s unclear how Daghita accessed digital foreign money.
“FBI will proceed working 24/7 with our worldwide companions to trace down, apprehend, and convey to justice those that try to defraud American taxpayers—regardless of the place they attempt to disguise,” Patel mentioned.
