New Affordable Housing Project Proposed for North Halifax
Plans are underway to build two new terraces of affordable housing in north Halifax, pending approval from Calderdale Council. An application has been submitted to construct ten new homes on land opposite St Andrew’s Church on Beechwood Road, Holmfield.
The development, proposed by Mr. Andrew Schofield, would transform a 0.2-hectare site into a mix of two and three-bedroom properties. Planning agents, Moreton Deakin Associates, have indicated that the project is intended to provide ‘affordable homes’ through a registered provider dedicated to such initiatives.
Development Details and Features
Situated within an established residential area, the proposed terraces are designed to integrate with the surroundings. The plans include retained access to the neighboring property, The Old Chapel, alongside new vehicle access points onto Beechwood Road to the north and Watkinson Road to the south. A central pedestrian walkway will separate the two blocks of houses.
Each residence is slated to feature private rear gardens, designated bin storage areas, and on-plot parking. The landscaping strategy incorporates new tree plantings and the installation of bat and bird boxes, aiming to enhance local wildlife habitats.
Sustainable Contribution to Housing Supply
Agents for the project stated that the scheme offers ten well-proportioned dwellings in a compact terrace design, maximizing land use. The development will provide a variety of accommodation sizes and include on-site amenities such as landscaping, parking, and biodiversity features, alongside primary and secondary access points.
The proposal is presented as a sustainable and policy-compliant contribution to the local housing supply and community development. The application, identified by reference number 26/00245/FUL, is accessible for public review on the council’s Planning Portal.
