Heated Clash on White House Lawn

President Donald Trump sharply confronted reporters on the White House lawn prior to departing for a key summit in China. The exchange escalated as Trump highlighted expansions to a new ballroom and defended his economic record amid rising inflation concerns.

Questions on Taxpayer Costs Spark Outburst

A reporter questioned the expense to American taxpayers for doubling the ballroom’s size. Trump responded forcefully: “I doubled the size of it, you dumb person! You are not a smart person!”

Defense Amid Inflation Surge

Earlier, another reporter asked if his policies were failing after inflation hit its highest level in three years. Trump countered: “My policies are working incredibly. If you go back to just before the war, for the last three months inflation was at 1.7%.”

He added: “Now, we had a choice, let these lunatics have a nuclear weapon, if you want to do that then you’re a stupid person, and you happen to be. I know you very well.”

Recent Economic Indicators

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday that consumer prices climbed 3.8% in April compared to the prior year, the largest yearly increase since May 2023. Surging energy prices, driven by the war with Iran, contribute to about 40% of the recent rise.
