Record Demand at University of Windsor Pantry

The University of Windsor Student Alliance food pantry serves 280 students monthly. Situated on the second floor of the CAW Student Centre in room 235, it also educates users and fights stigma via programs like food lockers for discreet access.

Husam Morr, president of the University of Windsor Student Alliance, believes usage would climb with greater awareness. “The food pantry aids students, but campuses need expanded services and initiatives,” Morr states.

Student Athletes Face Extra Hurdles

Sam Rohr, a track and field athlete from Wellesley, Ontario, living independently, grapples with soaring food prices and rent. “I’m fortunate to have parental help. Without it, the pressures mount alongside other demands,” he explains.

Teammate Kade Campbell emphasizes the athlete’s dilemma: “Many peers struggle with food affordability, but sports require constant nutrients, intensifying challenges amid inflation.”

Volleyball Event Fuels Fundraising Drive

Mark Heese attends the USports national men’s volleyball championships at the Toldo Lancer Centre. He expressed shock upon learning that peers of his son Markus—a setter for the Windsor Lancers—face food insecurity.

Via Volleyball United, Heese spearheads a food drive. “It’s wrong for student athletes like my son to lack proper nutrition,” he declares. Eventgoers donate through purchases, aiming to deliver substantial aid to the pantry by tournament’s end.
