A shocking discovery awaits a young resident of Coronation Street as a teenager unearths a hidden shotgun. The unsettling find occurs in an early release of the upcoming Sunday episode, making its debut on the ITVX streaming platform before its broadcast on ITV1.

The Mysterious Trinket Box

The focus of this unfolding drama is Jodie Ramsey, portrayed by Olivia Frances Brown. Since her introduction in January, Jodie has been observed collecting a peculiar assortment of items, carefully stashing them away in a trinket box. Initially, her collection included seemingly innocuous objects such as a photograph of Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) and a book belonging to Brian Packham (Peter Gunn). These early acquisitions appeared to stem from Jodie’s complex emotional state, possibly linked to her resentment over caring for an unwell father while perceiving others, like Shona, to have lived more fortunate lives. Her collection seemed to represent items that held sentimental value for others, perhaps as a manifestation of her own perceived deprivations.

A Sinister Addition

However, the nature of Jodie’s collection took a darker turn in June when she acquired a firearm. This weapon had previously been in the possession of Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), who had obtained it from an associate named Fiona Morley (Sara Poyzer). Carl had been instructed to hand the gun over to his uncle, Kevin (Michael Le Vell). The tense situation arose after Kevin and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) witnessed a video of Carl tampering with Tyrone’s car brakes. An intense argument ensued, during which Carl produced the gun, much to the shock of Kevin and Tyrone. Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) intervened, insisting the dispute be resolved before anyone could leave. In the ensuing struggle, the gun was accidentally discharged, though fortunately, no one was injured.

Following the incident, Carl, under Fiona’s direction, concealed the weapon. He was told to place it under the wheel of a car, awaiting pickup by Fiona’s contact. Unbeknownst to Carl, Jodie had been observing his actions and managed to retrieve the gun before the intended recipient arrived. Thrilled by her clandestine acquisition, she added the shotgun to her growing collection of pilfered possessions.

The Discovery Unfolds

The narrative takes a significant turn when David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) visits his sister Sarah (Tina O’Brien) in Norcross Prison. David has learned that Jodie was responsible for attacking Sarah back in April. During their conversation, Sarah makes a veiled reference to Jodie’s habit of collecting things, specifically mentioning the trinket box. Upon returning to the familiar streets of Coronation Street, David and his wife Shona (Julia Goulding) attempt to locate the box but are unsuccessful.

Later that evening, their daughter Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) descends to the living room in search of her confiscated gaming console. While rummaging under the sofa for the device, she pulls out several storage bags. Tucked away at the very bottom, she discovers the elusive trinket box. As Lily opens the box, her eyes widen in shock and horror at the sight of the shotgun hidden within.

What Happens Next?

The episode leaves viewers on a cliffhanger, questioning Lily’s next move. Will she alert an adult to the dangerous discovery, or will she attempt to handle the situation herself? The presence of a loaded firearm in the hands of a child, even unknowingly, poses a significant threat and promises further dramatic developments in Weatherfield.

The storyline involving Jodie’s escalating secrets and the implications of the shotgun’s discovery are set to dominate upcoming episodes. Viewers can anticipate further revelations about Jodie’s past and motivations, as well as the potential consequences of her actions on the residents of Coronation Street.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30 PM on ITV1. Episodes are also available to stream from 7 AM on ITVX.
