Authorities issued an expanded evacuation alert for Old Fort residents in northeastern British Columbia after a landslide blocked road access to the neighborhood.
The Peace River Regional District expanded the notice to more homes, instructing Old Fort residents to prepare for sudden departure.
A 400-meter slide struck on Sunday, sparking the first evacuation order for dozens as it severed all routes in and out of the community, situated five kilometers south of Fort St. John.
Ongoing Risks and Safety Measures
The alert warns of threats to life and health from accelerating ground instability in the area.
Those unable to exit following Monday’s evacuation order must shelter safely and ration supplies.
Evacuation Numbers and History
Jordan Kealy, the local Member of the Legislative Assembly, confirms around 70 people evacuated, though others remain despite a 2018 landslide that also prompted evacuations.
