WWE has showcased legendary wrestlers and teams throughout its history, from solo stars like Hulk Hogan and Roman Reigns to powerhouse factions such as nWo, The Shield, Evolution, and D-Generation X.
D-Generation X’s Lasting Impact
D-Generation X, featuring Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chyna, X-Pac, and the New Age Outlaws—Road Dogg and Billy Gunn—left an indelible mark on wrestling. The group gained fame through bold antics, including invading WCW and taunting Vince and Shane McMahon, embodying the essence of sports entertainment across multiple iterations.
New Age Outlaws’ Ring Dominance
As DX’s core tag team, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn captivated audiences with their charisma. Their iconic intro—’And if you’re not down with DX and the New Age Outlaws, we’ve got two words for you’—electrified arenas nationwide. Excelling both on the microphone and in the ring, they thrived during the Attitude Era, rivaling merchandise sales of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.
The duo secured six Tag Team Championships—five under WWF and one under WWE—and earned induction into the Hall of Fame in 2019 alongside DX members. Road Dogg even challenged The Undertaker’s streak, while their popularity led to widespread acclaim.
Separate Lives Behind the Spotlight
Despite their on-screen synergy, Road Dogg revealed the pair maintained distance off-camera. On his ‘Oh … You Didn’t Know?’ podcast, he stated: “We still weren’t friends, we were tag team partners, we were tag team champions and we still weren’t friends. I spent a lot of time with X-Pac, and again it’s just because Billy and I led two different lifestyles. Billy likes to look good, and I like to feel good. Bradshaw used to say that to us all the time and it was true. We lived two totally separate lives, but when we got to the squared circle, we jived.”
This disclosure highlights how professional chemistry can transcend personal differences in WWE’s high-stakes world.
