NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has confirmed the company’s commitment to a substantial investment in OpenAI’s ongoing funding round. During a recent discussion with reporters in Taipei, Huang described the move as potentially marking “the largest investment we’ve ever made.”
Background on the Partnership
In September, NVIDIA and OpenAI announced a collaborative initiative where NVIDIA would allocate up to $100 billion toward constructing 10 gigawatts of AI data centers. The project aims to bring its initial phase online in the second half of 2026, enhancing global AI infrastructure capabilities.
Addressing Recent Speculation
Sources familiar with the negotiations reveal that the companies have been reevaluating aspects of the original $100 billion agreement, which remains in its preliminary stages. Privately, Huang has emphasized the nonbinding status of the deal and raised concerns about OpenAI’s operational strategies needing greater focus.
Huang directly refuted these reports, labeling them “nonsense.” He expressed strong support for OpenAI, stating, “I believe in OpenAI. The work that they do is incredible. They’re one of the most consequential companies of our time.”
Huang further clarified that NVIDIA’s contribution to the current funding round will fall well short of the $100 billion figure previously discussed.
