Ollie Pearce expresses immense pride after securing the Billy Fenton Clubman of the Year trophy at York City, joining an elite list of past recipients including Keith Walwyn, Derek Hood, and Paul Barnes.
Pearce’s Stellar Season Awards
Pearce earns this honor following a standout campaign with 33 goals, making him a top contender. Recent winners include Joe Felix last season, alongside Ryan Fallowfield, Olly Dyson, and Pete Jameson.
The forward completes a remarkable hat-trick by also claiming the Supporters’ Player of the Year and Keith Walwyn Memorial Golden Boot awards at the gala event.
Pearce Reacts to Honors
“I was quite surprised at a couple of them, but I’m really proud,” Pearce states. “I’ve been joined by some really great company. I appreciate all of the votes, thank you.”
He adds, “Watching the video back, seeing some great people and some great players lift that trophy, it was a really proud moment for me.”
Promotion Push in National League
York City leads the National League table with two matches remaining, aiming to end a decade in non-league football and return to the Football League.
For the 30-year-old Pearce, who has never competed above the National League despite his scoring prowess, promotion means “everything.” “To go and play in the Football League would be brilliant,” he says. “It’s something that when I first came to the club, it was something I really wanted.”
Focus stays on the immediate challenge: a clash with Yeovil Town at LNER Community Stadium on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Victory could secure promotion if Rochdale falters at Braintree Town, but Pearce avoids assumptions.
Game-by-Game Mindset
“We’ve just got to take care of what you can, and that’s this weekend against Yeovil,” Pearce emphasizes. He notes the tight points race: “Looking at both of our points tallies, it’s going to go right to the wire.”
“We’ve just got to take it game by game… Our focus is fully on Yeovil,” he continues. “It’s been an unbelievable rollercoaster, both teams have been unbelievable to get over 100 points. It’s destined probably to go to the final day of the season.”
