A Boston Red Sox fan endured a painfully awkward moment during Sunday’s game at Fenway Park when his public marriage proposal to girlfriend Serah Linn drew a hesitant response in front of thousands of spectators.
The Jumbotron Heartbreaker
Identified as Douglas, the fan coordinated with stadium staff to feature the proposal on the jumbotron amid the Red Sox’s matchup against the Houston Astros. The screen displayed the message: ‘Serah Linn, will you marry me?’
Douglas turned to Serah, who paused before responding with a stony expression, ‘I don’t know.’ Panic flashed across his face as the crowd watched. In a quick recovery attempt, he skipped the ring and leaned in for a kiss, which she accepted. The couple shared whispers, with Douglas gesturing toward the jumbotron to highlight the public spotlight.
The incident was captured on video by Linda Henry, wife of Red Sox owner John Henry. She shared it on her Instagram Story, captioning it: ‘Quieter reaction on this one…..’
Social Media Reactions
The clip quickly went viral, sparking ruthless commentary online. One user noted: ‘Imagine getting rejected on the big screen then coming home and opening Twitter to this.’
Another observed: ‘Oh nooooooo…. They were definitely not [on] the same page.’ A third remarked: ‘Bad mojo everywhere with this team.’
Red Sox Fall in Disappointing Loss
The Astros defeated the Red Sox 3-1, dropping Boston’s record to 13-21. The team sits at the bottom of the AL East, trailing rivals New York Yankees by 10 games, with playoff aspirations dimming.
