Spotify continues rolling out enhancements, introducing a new feature that reveals the backstory behind tracks, while YouTube Music restricts lyrics access for non-paying users.
Spotify’s ‘About the Song’ Feature Delivers Track Insights
Spotify launches ‘About the Song,’ a beta tool designed for curious listeners. It provides background details and context for songs in a engaging, story-like format similar to social media posts.
Users discover inspirations behind tracks or artist comments. Each story slide includes thumbs up or down ratings to help refine the content.
Spotify states, “We believe that understanding the craft and context behind a song can deepen your connection to the music you love.”
Available exclusively to Premium subscribers, the feature rolls out on Android and iOS devices in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia.
YouTube Music Paywalls Lyrics for Free Users
YouTube Music now limits free account holders to viewing lyrics for just five songs per session before access blocks. Previously open to all, this change pushes users toward Premium subscriptions.
YouTube Music Premium comes bundled with YouTube Premium plans. Testing occurred earlier, and the restriction expands widely. Notably, Spotify offers unlimited lyrics access to all users.
