Prominent Surgeon Appears at Luxury Residence Following Serious Charges and Medical Suspension
Dr. Reza Adib, a surgeon previously associated with Annastacia Palaszczuk, has been publicly observed for the first time since facing multiple charges, including rape, and having his medical registration suspended. The former Queensland premier has not been seen at a Gold Coast apartment, which she once shared with Dr. Adib, since his arrest.
Public Appearance Amidst Legal Proceedings
This week, Dr. Adib was spotted at his substantial Brisbane residence, a property valued at approximately $7 million. The sighting occurred just hours after his medical registration was officially suspended, effectively halting his practice specializing in weight-loss surgery.
The 65-year-old surgeon is currently residing at the opulent mansion under strict bail conditions. He faces a total of six charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault involving a woman in her 30s. The property, described as a faux Italian villa, boasts views of the Brisbane River and features a swimming pool area with a replica of the Temple of Apollo.
At the time of his appearance, Dr. Adib was observed wearing form-fitting athletic attire. He was seen wincing, an expression that appeared to indicate discomfort, during his first public outing since his professional career was put on indefinite hold.
Suspension and Allegations
The Queensland Health Ombudsman suspended Dr. Adib’s medical registration on June 2, several weeks after police initiated charges against him. Authorities allege that on March 30, Dr. Adib committed an assault against a woman at his beachfront apartment in Burleigh Heads. This location has served as a residence for both Dr. Adib and Ms. Palaszczuk during their five-year relationship.
The one-time prominent couple has not been seen together publicly since the charges were filed. While they frequently stayed at Dr. Adib’s Burleigh Heads apartment, Ms. Palaszczuk has reportedly ceased visiting the location since it became identified as the scene of the alleged offenses.
Personal Statements and Career Impact
Court documents confirm that Dr. Adib has surrendered his passport as part of his bail stipulations. His legal representative has stated that Dr. Adib intends to contest the charges vigorously.
The charges against Dr. Adib include three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty, and one count of sexual assault involving the mouth and genitalia or anus. Prior to the police raid and his arrest at the Burleigh Heads property, Ms. Palaszczuk had reportedly expressed that she felt ‘very blessed’ to have Dr. Adib in her life. Following these developments, Ms. Palaszczuk has postponed her national book tour, which was set to promote her memoir.
Dr. Adib previously practiced as a laparoscopic, gastrointestinal, and obesity surgeon at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, where he ceased his work following his arrest. The couple was often seen socializing on the Gold Coast, frequenting popular dining establishments in the Burleigh Heads area.
The Indoooroopilly Residence
Ms. Palaszczuk has also stayed at Dr. Adib’s extensive home in Indooroopilly, Brisbane. This property is characterized by marble flooring, grand arches, and meticulously maintained terraced gardens. The five-bedroom residence, acquired for $6.25 million in 2011 and subsequently renovated, features a domed portico and a vaulted ceiling adorned with painted cherubs. It includes five bathrooms, one equipped with a marble-bottomed tub, gold-leaf framed mirrors, and an artist’s easel.
Dr. Adib’s medical registration suspension is set to remain in effect until it is either overturned by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal or revoked by the Health Ombudsman. The case is scheduled to return to Southport Magistrates Court on July 7.
