Tasha Ghouri reveals that ableism encountered during her Love Island stint continues to affect her emotionally as she embarks on a poignant journey in BBC’s Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island.
Reflecting on Reality TV Challenges
At a screening event for the BBC travel documentary, the 27-year-old influencer, born completely deaf and fitted with a cochlear implant at age five, shares her experiences. ‘People use your disability as their point to hate somebody,’ she states. ‘It still gets to me now. It was literally three years ago, but it still gets to me. I think it’s because I saw the impact it had on my family.’
The Pilgrimage Adventure
Tasha joins a diverse group of celebrities, including actress Patsy Kensit, 58, Diversity’s Ashley Banjo, 37, Cold Feet star Hermione Norris, 59, presenter Jayne Middlemiss, 55, stand-up comedian Hasan Al-Habib, comedian Ashley Blaker, and actor Patsy Kensit, on a five-day trek. They follow historic paths linked to St. Cuthbert through stunning landscapes in North Yorkshire, County Durham, and Northumberland, culminating at the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
In the premiere episode, Tasha forms a close connection with Patsy, praising her: ‘I think you’re an incredible woman, like you really are, you’re so strong, you’re so forceful, empowering. I’ve learned so much from you already, and I can’t wait to learn more from you.’ Patsy responds with candid advice on relationships: ‘You don’t have to marry all your boyfriends!’
From Love Island Fame to Personal Struggles
Tasha rose to prominence on the eighth series of ITV’s Love Island in 2022, where she coupled up with Andrew Le Page. The pair purchased their first home and started renovations before parting ways last year, surprising fans after Andrew supported her during her Strictly Come Dancing appearance in late 2024.
The breakup grew contentious, with Andrew, 31, claiming Tasha used celebrity dating app Raya while they were together. She now enjoys a relationship with CBBC presenter Cam Whitnall, begun last May, and describes herself as in a ‘really good place mentally.’
Post-split, Tasha opened up about severe online trolling that harmed her mental health. In an Instagram Q&A, she admitted: ‘I was so so anxious to share this, I’ve experienced a lot of horrific trolls in the past year in my messages online and it massively impacted my mental health to the point I didn’t want to leave my bedroom.’
Reflecting on 2025, she told her 1.3 million Instagram followers: ‘2025 was tough mentally. I had to dig out of deep places from very horrific trolling but in the end of it all I found true happiness. Never again am I letting them tear me apart to the point I completely lost myself and my love for what I do.’ She enters 2026 ‘surrounded by love.’
Pilgrimage: The Road to Holy Island premieres on BBC Two on April 5 at 9pm.
