U.S. shoots down Iranian drone that approached USS Abraham Lincoln plane service, army says

Washington — U.S. forces shot down an Iranian drone that flew in the direction of a U.S. Navy plane service within the Arabian Sea on Tuesday, U.S. Central Command confirmed.

The army stated the drone “aggressively” approached the united statesAbraham Lincoln because it was crossing via the Arabian Sea roughly 500 miles from the southern coast of Iran and “unnecessarily maneuvered” towards the ship. U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins stated the drone continued to flew towards the service “regardless of de-escalatory measures taken by U.S. forces working in worldwide waters.”

The drone was shot down by a F-35 fighter jet, and no American service members have been harmed within the incident, Hawkins stated in a press release.

U.S. Central Command additionally confirmed that hours later, forces with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps harassed a U.S.-flagged and crewed oil tanker, Stena Crucial, that was transferring via the Strait of Hormuz. Hawkins stated two Iranian army boats and an Iranian drone approached the vessel at “excessive speeds and threatened to board and seize the tanker.”

The usMcCaul, a guided-missile destroyer that was within the space, responded to the scene to escort the vessel with air help from the U.S. Air Pressure, in accordance with Hawkins. 

“CENTCOM forces are working on the highest ranges of professionalism and making certain the security of U.S. personnel, ships, and plane within the Center East,” he stated. “Continued Iranian harassment and threats in worldwide waters and airspace won’t be tolerated. Iran’s pointless aggression close to U.S. forces, regional companions and industrial vessels will increase dangers of collision, miscalculation, and regional destabilization.”

The U.S. army has in latest days constructed up its presence close to Iran with what President Trump known as a “large armada.” The president advised reporters final month that the army was sending ships to the Center East “simply in case,” as his administration watches Iran’s response to large protests that broke out late final 12 months.

Hundreds of protesters are believed to have been killed in response to a crackdown on demonstrations by Iranian authorities.
