Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Lawyer Basic Keith Ellison are testifying Wednesday morning at a Home Oversight Committee listening to on fraud and the “misuse” of federal funds within the state.

Lawmakers may even hear from a clergy member concerning the impression of Operation Metro Surge.

The listening to comes after Republicans launched an investigation into how Minnesota dealt with taxpayer {dollars}. 

Former U.S. Assistant U.S. Lawyer Joe Thompson in December stated the whole quantity of fraud in Minnesota’s Medicaid applications could possibly be $9 billion or extra. Walz known as Thompson’s assertion “sensationalism” and stated that it would not “assist” the state deal with the issue that he vowed to repair.  

In early January, Republican Minnesota state representatives testified on Capitol Hill, claiming the governor knew concerning the fraud and accusing him of letting it spiral uncontrolled. 

GOP Home Majority Chief Harry Niska says he needs to listen to accountability from Walz and Ellison.

Walz defended his administration, accusing President Trump of “politicizing the difficulty to defund applications that assist Minnesotans.”

When requested about Wednesday’s listening to, a spokesperson for Walz’s workplace stated, “The Governor takes Congress significantly, and his hope is that Congress will take Congress significantly.”

Ellison’s workplace says “he [Ellison] will encourage members of the committee to set partisan politics apart and work throughout celebration strains to struggle fraud and shield Medicaid.”

Lawmakers may even hear from Rev. Mariah Tollgaard, known as on by Democrats as a witness. She’s going to give attention to the impacts of Operation Metro Surge. 

“Fraud is getting used as a pretext to scapegoat probably the most susceptible amongst us and justification for the violent and merciless actions of Operation Metro Surge,” she stated. 

She was considered one of many religion leaders arrested whereas protesting. She stated that she felt it was her spiritual responsibility as a Christian to face up for her neighbors amidst what she described as a federal occupation of her state.

Walz presents opening assertion

Walz, in his opening assertion to the committee, touted Minnesota as the most effective states for households and greatest to dwell in general. 

“Below my management, Minnesota has devoted its sources to making sure that every one Minnesotans can dwell dignified and full lives with entry to top-notch public colleges, high quality well being care, good jobs,” Walz stated.

He then turned his consideration to the difficulty at hand, although denied the state has ignored or lined up fraud.

“Though Minnesota’s applications have overwhelmingly achieved their supposed objective, they are not immune from fraud. I will be the primary to acknowledge that,” he stated. “However let me be clear: In Minnesota, when you defraud public applications, when you steal taxpayer cash, we’ll discover you, we’ll prosecute you, we’ll convict you and we’ll throw you in jail.”
