Martha Stewart, 84, recently shared a lighthearted exchange with New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson about the courtside collision that broke her big toe nearly a year ago at Madison Square Garden.
The Courtside Collision
During an NBA playoff game against the Indiana Pacers at the iconic arena, Brunson jumped up quickly and collided with Stewart, who sat courtside. The impact fractured her big toe, though she initially brushed it off by saying, “It’s okay.” Stewart later revealed the injury proved far more serious than she let on at the moment.
Reconciliation on the ‘Roommates Show’
Stewart joined Brunson and teammate Josh Hart on their ‘Roommates Show’ podcast, where she confronted the incident directly. “It wasn’t your fault,” she told Brunson. “It was my fault for wearing open-toed shoes.”
Brunson admitted he still feels uneasy about the mishap almost a year later. Stewart forgave him fully, recounting how he apologized via FaceTime and sent a basketball for her grandson.
Injury Details and Recovery
Stewart sought treatment at New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Doctors confirmed a fracture, which she humorously dubbed the “Stewart-Brunson fracture.” An X-ray verified the break, and full healing took an entire year.
Reflecting now, Stewart views the event as “silly, stupid, and funny.” In a playful jab, she asked Brunson, “Have you broken anyone else’s toes?” He replied, “Not that I know of.”
