Serving a life sentence for the abduction, rape, and murder of Sarah Everard, former Metropolitan Police officer Wayne Couzens is reportedly attempting to reconnect with his estranged wife. Couzens, 52, who is unlikely to ever be released, is currently held at HMP Frankland.
Fears for Safety Prompt Outreach
Insiders suggest Couzens harbors fears for his safety within the prison system, particularly following the murder of Ian Huntley. As a high-profile inmate, he reportedly believes he may become a target. These anxieties appear to have prompted him to reach out to his family.
It is understood that Couzens has written to his wife, Olena, and their two children, pleading for them to visit him. Olena, a Ukrainian national, has reportedly relocated from Deal, Kent, where the couple resided for five years leading up to Sarah Everard’s murder. While she remains in the UK, the family home was listed for sale last year.
Wife Reportedly Unwilling to Reconnect
Despite Couzens’ appeals, it is not believed that his wife is inclined to agree to a visit. An individual with knowledge of the situation stated, “She does not want any association with him; she was shocked at what happened.”
This source added that Olena had previously conveyed through the Metropolitan Police her profound sorrow for Sarah Everard’s family’s loss. She also reportedly indicated that she had observed no signs of change in her husband prior to the horrific events.
“Her first thought through all of this nightmare is for her young children,” the insider commented. “Years have passed now, and she doesn’t care about his fears for his life or wants to see his family. He made a choice that they were not in his mind when he did the monstrous thing he did.”

The family home in Kent, a three-bedroom property, was listed on Rightmove. Reports indicate that the asking price was reduced from £300,000 to £280,000 after an initial sale fell through. Estate agents described the property as an “ideal terraced family house” with “three double bedrooms and ample living space.” The listing highlighted a sizable rear garden overlooking fields, a block-paved driveway, and a garage at the front. The property was noted as having been well-maintained, featuring a modern kitchen, bathroom, and a log burner.
Arrest at the Property
Following the brutal killing of 33-year-old Sarah Everard, police arrested Couzens at the family residence. Bodycam footage captured the moment of his apprehension. Couzens, a former Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection officer, used his police identification to stage a fake arrest of Sarah Everard during COVID-19 lockdown as she was returning from a friend’s home.
“I think his time at prison is going to continue to be very lonely indeed,” the insider concluded.
