Gaza’s Health Ministry reported Wednesday that the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip since a ceasefire agreement with Hamas last October has now reached 1,005. The besieged territory continues to face regular air strikes, artillery fire, and gunfire along its border.
Intensified Strikes in Central and Northern Gaza
Recent fatalities are attributed to a series of Israeli drone strikes over the past few days. These attacks targeted towns and refugee camps located in central Gaza and Gaza City, contributing to the rising death toll.
Fatal Incident in Khan Younis
In a separate incident on Wednesday, an Israeli strike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians and injured six others, according to health officials at Nasser Hospital. The Israeli military acknowledged the strike, stating that its objective was a “terrorist.” However, specific details were not provided.
Families present at the hospital asserted that the strike impacted a group of individuals situated near the beach within the expansive Mawasi tent camp. This camp is currently housing hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians.
Israeli Military Operations Continue
Israel asserts that its military operations against Hamas and allied militant groups in Gaza are ongoing. The military has also reportedly expanded its control over territory within the strip.
In a separate announcement on Wednesday, the Israeli military stated that it had eliminated two militants associated with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad during strikes conducted over the weekend.
Overall War Casualties
Earlier on Sunday, Gaza’s Health Ministry indicated that the total death toll from the broader Israel-Hamas war, which commenced in October 2023, had exceeded 73,000 in Gaza. The ministry, comprised of medical professionals, maintains detailed casualty records that are generally regarded as reliable by the international community. It is noted that these figures do not differentiate between combatants and non-combatants.
