Manchester City Poised to Appoint Enzo Maresca as New Manager
Manchester City is reportedly on the verge of officially appointing Enzo Maresca as the successor to Pep Guardiola. Negotiations between City executives and their counterparts at Chelsea have been ongoing for several weeks, focusing on the final terms of an agreement to bring the Italian manager to the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea had been seeking a compensation package exceeding £15 million for Maresca, who resigned from his position at Stamford Bridge earlier this year. Maresca has reportedly been in discussions with City’s director of football for an extended period and is reportedly well-informed about the club’s strategic plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Key Transfer Targets Identified
Sources indicate that Elliot Anderson is a primary midfield target for Manchester City. There is optimism that the England international could complete a transfer to the Etihad Stadium, potentially setting a new British record fee in excess of £120 million. In addition to midfield reinforcements, the club is also actively pursuing options for a right-sided player and a winger. Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is also reportedly admired by the club.
Maresca’s Familiarity with Guardiola’s System
Maresca is expected to take the managerial reins at Manchester City with the endorsement of Pep Guardiola. The two managers share a close professional relationship, stemming from Maresca’s tenure as an assistant coach under Guardiola. During his time on the coaching staff, City achieved the historic Treble in 2023.
A significant portion of the current Manchester City squad is participating in the World Cup, and many players are not expected to join the pre-season tour of Asia. Representatives for both Manchester City and Chelsea have declined to comment on the ongoing developments.
