Actress Justene Alpert Reveals Devastating Pregnancy Loss
Actress Justene Alpert, known for her roles in shows like 9-1-1 and How I Met Your Mother, has publicly shared the profound grief of losing a pregnancy last December. The 36-year-old star revealed in a poignant Instagram post that she made the agonizing decision to terminate her pregnancy after medical professionals detected a rare genetic disorder in her unborn child.
Alpert explained that she and her husband, Mason Trueblood, had just begun sharing the happy news of their expected child with family and friends when they received the devastating prognosis. “The specialist spoke to us not only about our baby’s condition but the high risks that I would be subjected to as a woman my age,” she recounted in a detailed statement.
A Difficult Prognosis and a Painful Choice
The actress detailed that on December 22, while in her first trimester, her happiness was shattered. Her medical team strongly advised ending the pregnancy promptly, citing concerns that the baby might not survive to term. “My husband and I tried so hard to savor Christmas Eve and Christmas with our baby boy, fighting through the grief each day,” Alpert shared, describing the immense emotional toll.
The couple had to say goodbye to their son on December 29. “We didn’t want to have to make this decision. No mom or dad should ever have to be put in this place,” she expressed, highlighting the immense pain of such a choice. Alpert emphasized that these difficult situations are often not openly discussed and do not receive the same societal support as other forms of pregnancy loss. “It’s the worst pain and many suffer silently out of fear of being judged or simply misunderstood,” she added.
Remembering Their Son and Finding Support
Alpert referred to her unborn son as Mads Mason Trueblood, stating that he “made his way back to heaven so loved and so adored already.” Despite the heartbreak, she expressed profound gratitude for her support system. “We are nothing without you and Mason and I are so appreciative,” she stated, acknowledging the crucial role of her loved ones.
She also offered a heartfelt tribute to her husband, sharing that the harrowing experience deepened her love for him. “I would say I do to this man 100 times over,” she wrote, echoing vows of enduring commitment. The actress concluded her candid post with a message to her son, declaring, “I loved you then, I love you now and I will love you forever.” Alpert shared her story with the hope of reaching other women who might find themselves in a similar, unimaginable situation.
