A significant expansion for the UK retailer Next is set to unfold this July with the grand opening of a new superstore at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. The expansive new store, confirmed to open its doors on Thursday, July 30, represents a major milestone for both the retailer and the shopping destination. This new Next outlet will dramatically increase the brand’s footprint within the centre, occupying a colossal 132,000 square feet.
A Landmark Opening for Bluewater
The arrival of the new Next superstore is being heralded as a landmark event for Bluewater, marking the first new anchor store to join the centre since its initial launch in 1999. James Waugh, Bluewater’s centre director, expressed considerable enthusiasm about the confirmed opening date, noting the significant public anticipation. “There has been huge anticipation around the opening of Next’s new store, so we’re delighted to confirm that it will be opening its doors later this month,” Waugh stated. He further emphasized the store’s importance, adding, “As our first new anchor store since Bluewater launched in 1999, this expansion is a landmark moment for us. We look forward to welcoming guests across the opening weekend and beyond.”
Enhanced Retail Experience and Offerings
This new Next superstore is designed to offer shoppers an unparalleled retail experience, significantly expanding the range of products available. The store will house extensive collections for men, women, and children, alongside a comprehensive homeware section. Complementing the shopping experience, an in-store Costa cafe will provide a convenient space for visitors to relax and recharge. Adjacent to the main store, the premium health and beauty brand Bath and Body Works will also be situated within a neighboring 2,000 square foot unit, further diversifying the retail mix.
The strategic location of the new Next superstore is within a former House of Fraser unit, which had been vacant at Bluewater since late 2024. This move not only revitalizes a key retail space within the centre but also consolidates and vastly expands Next’s presence. The retailer’s commitment to this flagship location underscores its strategy to offer a more immersive and comprehensive shopping environment for its customers.
Grand Opening Celebrations and In-Store Features
To commemorate the launch of what is described as one of Next’s largest stores, Bluewater and Next are planning a series of celebratory events. The opening weekend is set to feature family-friendly entertainment designed to create a festive atmosphere. Attractions will include face painting for children, a live DJ providing music, and an appearance by the beloved Next mascot, Hamish the Highland Cow. Adding an extra layer of excitement, the first 150 customers to enter the new store will be treated to an exclusive goody bag, a special token of appreciation for their early support.
Terry Wetherell, the store manager for Next at Bluewater, conveyed his team’s eagerness for the opening. “We’re incredibly excited to be opening the largest store across the Next portfolio at Bluewater,” he remarked. “We can’t wait to showcase a broader range of our products and introduce new brands to the centre and our customers.” This sentiment highlights the store’s ambition to become a premier destination for fashion, home goods, and branded collaborations.
