A gunman killed no less than 10 individuals and wounded 10 others in an assault at a township exterior Johannesburg, police mentioned Sunday, within the second mass taking pictures in South Africa this month.

The motive for the assault in Bekkersdal, 25 miles southwest of town, was not clear, police advised Agence France-Press.

“Some victims have been randomly shot within the streets by unknown gunmen,” a police assertion mentioned.

“Ten individuals are useless. We do not have a breakdown of who they’re,” Brigadier Brenda Muridili, police spokesperson for Gauteng province, advised AFP.

The taking pictures passed off close to a tavern or casual bar in Bekkersdal, an impoverished space close to a few of South Africa’s main gold mines.

The wounded have been taken to hospital, police mentioned.

On Dec. 6, gunmen stormed a hostel close to the capital Pretoria, killing a dozen individuals together with a three-year-old little one.

Police mentioned the taking pictures was at a web site that was illegally promoting alcohol.

South Africa, house to 63 million individuals, suffers from a excessive crime fee, together with one of many highest homicide charges on the earth.
