The grand finale of India’s 77th Republic Day celebrations concluded with a spectacular Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk, featuring a special tribute to Operation Sindoor through mesmerizing military band performances and innovative digital displays.
President Droupadi Murmu presided over the ceremony, joined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, and other distinguished government officials including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Justice Surya Kant.
Innovative Digital Elements and Special Formations
This year’s ceremony introduced several groundbreaking elements, including performers in illuminated attire and digital LED panels mounted on drums and instruments. Special formations by band members depicted scenes from Operation Sindoor and paid tribute to the recently decommissioned MiG-21 fighters.
Cultural Integration Through Music
In a unique tribute to India’s musical heritage, all spectator seating areas were named after traditional Indian instruments such as the flute, tabla, sitar, veena, shehnai, mridangam, sarod, and santoor.
Military Bands’ Performance Highlights
The ceremony opened with the iconic “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja” performed by the Massed Band. The Pipes and Drums band followed with stirring renditions of “Atulya Bharat,” “Veer Sainik,” and “Nritya Sarita.” The Central Armed Police Forces contributed with powerful performances of “Vijay Bharat” and the popular “Jai Ho.”
Service-Specific Performances
The Air Force band delivered powerful renditions of “Brave Warrior” and “Flying Star,” while the Navy band performed patriotic compositions including “Sagar Pawan” and “Matrubhoomi.” The Army band captivated audiences with “Vijayi Bharat” and “Sugamya Bharat.”
Under the leadership of Squadron Leader Lamapokpam Roopchand Singh as chief conductor, the ceremony concluded with the traditional favorite “Saare Jahan Se Achha” performed by the buglers. The evening culminated in a breathtaking illumination of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, North Block, South Block, and Parliament buildings.
The event marked the formal conclusion of the Republic Day celebrations, demonstrating the perfect blend of military precision, musical excellence, and patriotic fervor that has become synonymous with India’s Beating Retreat ceremony.
