Prince William has expressed profound grief over the sudden passing of 25-year-old army medic Cpl Lucy Wilde. In a poignant message shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account, he reflected on their personal encounter.
Prince William’s Emotional Statement
“It was with immense sadness that I learned of Cpl Lucy Wilde’s death,” William stated. He recalled meeting her during her service with the Welsh Guards, noting her unmistakable warmth and compassion. “She served with courage and distinction as a medic and sought always to help others. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.” The message concluded with his signature, “Corporal William.”
Circumstances Surrounding Her Death
Cpl Lucy Wilde, a member of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment, was discovered deceased at her barracks in Warminster, Wiltshire, on February 5. The Ministry of Defence confirms an ongoing investigation into the incident.
Her brother, Josh Wilde, described her as “strength wrapped in softness.” Members of her former regiment highlighted her “tireless care for others,” underscoring her dedication.
Life Beyond the Barracks
Besides her military duties, Cpl Wilde built a following of 18,000 on TikTok, where she shared her exercise routines and glimpses into daily army life. She previously encountered Prince William, Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, during his visit to Combermere Barracks in March 2024.
Recent Royal Duties
The tribute follows Prince William’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia, undertaken at the British government’s request to bolster bilateral relations. His three-day itinerary featured a tour of the UNESCO-listed At-Turaif District, birthplace of the first Saudi state, guided by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
