Former British Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman, 68, has married her longtime partner David, 78, in an intimate ceremony at Chelsea Registry Office following two decades together.
Intimate Ceremony Details
Shulman announced the wedding on Instagram, sharing a photo of the couple surrounded by loved ones tossing confetti. She wore a vibrant red and white printed dress for the occasion. Only family and a few close friends attended the low-key event.
Her caption read: “WE DID IT! Wedding at Chelsea with family and a few friends.” She thanked contributors, including @nshulman for the bouquet, @conphipps for brunch, and @samuelspike for the order of service sheet, adding hashtags #marriage and #wedding.
Friends flooded the comments with congratulations on the post.
Relationship Background
Shulman previously shared insights into their relationship in a column, explaining her aversion to the term “partner” as sounding “unattractively corporate and contractual.” She also expressed discomfort with calling David her “boyfriend.”
In December, she posted a nostalgic throwback photo highlighting their long partnership on Instagram.
Distinguished Career at Vogue
Shulman served as editor-in-chief of British Vogue for 25 years, stepping down in 2017—nearly a quarter-century after her appointment.
Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of the magazine’s publisher Condé Nast, praised her at the time: “Alex has been the longest-serving and most successful editor of Vogue in its 100-year history. She has been the towering figure of the British fashion press throughout her tenure: a superb journalist and editor, who understands and exemplifies every quality. Imaginative, hard-working, perceptive and a brilliant leader.”
Reflecting on her departure, Shulman stated: “I realised that I very much wanted to experience a different life and look forward to a future separate to Vogue. It does amaze me when people say ‘Well, you don’t look like the editor of Vogue.’ Because I am the editor of Vogue. So what else does the editor of Vogue look like?”
Edward Enninful succeeded her, serving until 2023 when he became Vogue’s global creative and cultural advisor. Chioma Nnadi now holds the role and co-hosts the Vogue podcast The Run-Through.
