Socialite’s Suspicious Death in Sao Paulo Hotel Under Investigation
An American art socialite, Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, 40, was discovered deceased in a luxury hotel in Sao Paulo, Brazil, following a trip for cosmetic surgery. Officials are currently treating the death as suspicious and have initiated a formal investigation.
Helphenstein was found on Sunday by her plastic surgeon at the Rosewood Sao Paulo. Reports indicate the surgeon went to check on the patient after attempts to contact her by phone were unsuccessful. Upon entering the hotel room, authorities discovered an empty vodka bottle, prescription medication, and broken glass.
Prominent Art World Figure
Helphenstein had reportedly been in Brazil for approximately three weeks. She was known as an artist and the creator of the widely followed Instagram account, Jerry Gogosian. This platform, which garnered over 152,000 followers, often featured the artist’s sardonic commentary on the art world and her personal experiences within it.
The Jerry Gogosian account was initially launched anonymously in 2018, with Helphenstein revealing her identity two years later. While she had announced in June that she would be stepping back from the page, she had continued to post content as recently as this week.
Hotel Statement on Incident
A representative for the Rosewood Sao Paulo confirmed the discovery of the guest, identified as Hilde Ann Lynn, on Sunday afternoon. The hotel stated it is cooperating fully with the authorities and has provided all requested information to aid the investigation.
The hotel added that out of respect for the privacy of the guest, their family, and the ongoing work of law enforcement, no further details would be released at this time.
