Unusual Stunt Raises Awareness for Homelessness
A seasoned strongman, renowned for his extraordinary feats of power, has once again captivated audiences with a daring new stunt. John Stephenson, a former bare-knuckle boxer, has achieved global recognition for his ability to move heavy vehicles using unconventional body parts. His latest challenge saw him pull a police patrol car, famously featured in the television drama ‘The Bill’, a distance of fifty meters using only his teeth, all while engulfed in flames.
A History of Extreme Feats
Stephenson’s previous accomplishments include being the first person in the United Kingdom to tow a two-tonne vehicle using his testicles. He also holds the distinction of being the first individual worldwide to drag a car with his penis while set alight. This latest endeavor, aimed at raising awareness for homelessness, saw the 50-year-old also set his shirt ablaze during the performance.
Motivation Behind the Stunts
Speaking about his motivations, Stephenson commented, “I just try anything. I just like to think of things people haven’t done.” He further elaborated, “It’s not every day you see someone on fire pulling a car with their teeth. I feel I’m tapping into a niche thing. I know it’s crazy but for me it’s the challenge that excites me.” He explained that since retiring from fighting, he still craves the adrenaline rush, finding it in these extreme challenges.
The Performance Unfolds
The stunt began with Stephenson, dressed in a full police uniform, pulling the vehicle with his teeth as a warm-up. He then proceeded to set himself on fire. “I felt it, it was starting to seep through my clothing,” he recounted. “It kind of burnt through but we got the job done.” He emphasized the years of training behind such performances, cautioning others against attempting them.
Community Connection and Future Plans
Stephenson has been conducting these stunts in Halifax’s West Bank, where he has reconnected with his long-lost sisters. This has fostered a local following, and he now plans to return to South Holland to stage a performance for the community there. “I want to do something in Lincolnshire,” he stated. “I’m coming back to home waters. I might do something down there.” His next planned stunt involves an attempt to lift a car.
Beyond Vehicle Pulling
Stephenson’s capabilities extend beyond vehicle manipulation. He holds multiple world records, including one for delivering 300 machine-gun punches in 30 seconds while holding 1kg dumbbells in each hand. He is also a published author of martial arts books and has appeared in the British film ‘The Guardian’. His past feats include pulling iconic vehicles such as the A-Team van, the General Lee from ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’, and patrol cars and ambulances used in popular television shows like ‘The Bill’ and ‘Casualty’.
