Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are gearing up to produce a compelling war film for Netflix. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are partnering with Netflix’s scripted content head, Tracy Ryerson, to adapt the book No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege through their Archewell Productions banner.
The Gripping Story Behind the Film
The project transforms the book into a feature film, with screenwriter Matt Charman—known for Bridge of Spies—penning the script. This initiative falls under the couple’s ongoing partnership with Netflix, which shifted to a first-look deal last year.
The narrative centers on Easy Company, comprising Paras and Royal Irish Rangers, assigned to defend the Musa Qala District Centre in Helmand province during the Afghanistan conflict in July 2006. Under the command of Major Adam Jowett, the unit faced relentless Taliban assaults while isolated in a makeshift compound.
The book captures the intensity: “In Helmand province in July 2006, Major Adam Jowett was given command of Easy Company, a hastily assembled and understrength unit of Paras and Royal Irish Rangers. Their mission was to hold the District Centre of Musa Qala at any cost. Easy Company found themselves in a ramshackle compound, cut off and heavily outnumbered by the Taliban in the town. In No Way Out, Adam evokes the heat and chaos of battle as the Taliban hit Easy Company with wave after wave of brutal attack.”
Harry’s Personal Connection
This project resonates deeply with Prince Harry, who served a decade in the military, including two tours in Afghanistan—one a 10-week deployment in Helmand province. His service concluded in 2015.
More Netflix Ventures Ahead
The Sussexes have additional Netflix projects in development, including screen adaptations of Tracey Oliver’s The Wedding Date and Carley Fortune’s Meet Me At The Lake. They are also executive producing a polo-themed drama series set in the equestrian hub of Wellington, Florida, with scripting by Francisca X. from Teacup.
