Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law has suffered a torn ACL, ending his debut season before it could even begin. The devastating injury occurred during a non-contact drill in recent offseason workouts, sidelining the 22-year-old just weeks after his selection in the NFL Draft.
Coach Campbell Addresses Injury
Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed the news to reporters, acknowledging the harsh reality of professional sports. “It’s part of it. Harsh reality, but he’ll get it out of the way early, have his whole career ahead of him,” Campbell stated. He expressed regret for the unfortunate start but highlighted the overall positive progress of the team. “Hate to start with that, that’s a bit of a negative, but everybody else is doing good. Everybody else is improving.”
Law’s Collegiate Background and Draft Profile
The Lions selected Law, a former standout at Kentucky, in the fifth round of the draft. The team traded up 13 spots to secure him at pick No. 168 overall. Law’s athletic profile includes an impressive 42-inch vertical jump. He led Kentucky in receiving yards last season with 540, with a significant portion of those yards coming after the catch.
Law transferred to Kentucky after beginning his college career at Alabama, where he played sparingly over his first three seasons. The Lions had envisioned him providing depth at both wide receiver and on special teams, where he also returned kickoffs and punts during his college tenure. Last year with the Wildcats, Law recorded 53 receptions and three touchdowns.
Impact on Lions’ Receiving Depth
Law’s injury impacts a wide receiver corps that already features established talent. The team’s depth chart at the position includes star Amon-Ra St. Brown, along with Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa.
