Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the 2007 disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann, is reportedly planning to write a tell-all memoir detailing his side of the story. Sources suggest Brueckner, who is currently imprisoned for rape, is working on a first draft and has enlisted the help of a professional writer. The book is intended for publication in both German and English.

Brueckner’s Alleged Motives for a Memoir

Insiders claim Brueckner is driven by a desire to assert his innocence and to generate income. “Brueckner is desperate to tell his side of the story,” a source reportedly stated. “He believes that writing about his innocence will help him. Ultimately he also sees it as a way to help him financially.” It is rumored that Brueckner believes the book could potentially earn him a seven-figure sum, although actual earnings may be considerably less.

Background of the Madeleine McCann Case

Madeleine McCann, then aged three, vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007, while her parents were dining with friends nearby. Despite extensive investigations by Portuguese, British, and German authorities, no charges have ever been filed in connection with her disappearance.

In 2020, 13 years after Madeleine vanished, German prosecutors identified Christian Brueckner, a German national residing in Portugal at the time, as the prime suspect. Brueckner, now 49, has consistently maintained his innocence.

Brueckner’s Account of the Night of Disappearance

In a recent admission to the Mail on Sunday, Brueckner stated that he was approximately 150 yards from the holiday apartment on the night Madeleine disappeared. He explained his presence by claiming he was on the beach selling drugs he had smuggled from Spain into Portugal. Brueckner also mentioned being stopped by police in his van three times that evening but was not searched, stating, “Luckily they didn’t find the drugs.”

Previously, Brueckner had remained largely silent about his whereabouts on that specific night. He reportedly explained his reticence by saying, “I’ve kept quiet because the police want to frame me for the Maddie thing.”

Legal Proceedings and Future Prospects

Christian Brueckner was convicted of rape in Germany and is currently serving a prison sentence. He has never been charged in relation to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.

However, Brueckner is scheduled to appear in court in Germany in January for an appeal hearing concerning his rape conviction. This hearing is expected to be followed by a potential retrial. Sources close to the case in Germany suggest that this new court date could be significant for investigators seeking to bring charges against Brueckner in connection with Madeleine’s disappearance. “The way the German system works means every part of the original trial will be considered – and the judge overseeing it is incredibly sharp. She will miss nothing,” one source told The Sun. “Maddie investigators realise for the first time, there is a genuine will to see a retrial and for something to be done about Brueckner.”

Reactions to the Potential Memoir

Retired British detective Kevin Moore, who was involved in the early stages of the investigation, expressed strong disapproval of the potential book. “I won’t be buying it. It’s abhorrent,” Moore reportedly commented.

The reported plans for a memoir emerge amidst ongoing legal scrutiny and investigations into Brueckner’s alleged involvement in the McCann case. While he maintains his innocence, the upcoming legal proceedings and the potential publication of his account add another layer to the long-standing mystery.
