A shepherd’s discovery of a rucksack near a remote Gran Canaria ravine adds a key twist to the investigation into the death of Hungarian reality TV star Annabella Lovas, 32. Her half-naked body was found in the Berriel Ravine, and detectives identified her through dental records sent to Interpol.
Key Find Near Maspalomas
The rucksack, holding Lovas’s passport and personal items, turned up in southern Gran Canaria, about a 15-minute drive inland from Maspalomas. The shepherd spotted it Friday evening while walking between the Degollada de las Yeguas viewpoint and a nearby closed illegal landfill. Forensic teams quickly sealed the site and recovered the bag for laboratory analysis to trace her final movements.
Challenging Body Recovery
Lovas’s body surfaced on March 6, 2025, in a natural pool within the hard-to-reach Berriel Ravine after February storms. She was naked from the waist down, with tattoos on her shoulder and back. Her fingertips had deteriorated after roughly three weeks in the water, preventing fingerprint identification. Initial forensic exams could not pinpoint the cause of death or yield usable DNA.
Identification Breakthrough
Prior drone and helicopter searches missed her belongings. DNA tests against family samples failed twice due to degradation. A tooth mold sent to Interpol provided the match via dental records, confirming her identity. Police Chief Pablo Fernandez Sala described the process as “hard and intense.”
He stated: “Colleagues tried to reach the natural pool to reconstruct her last steps and carry out a visible inspection on the ground but it was impossible. You would have needed to be a professional climber, not just any hiker, to reach the spot. All we had to go on initially were some strange tattoos she had on her shoulder and back.”
On the dental breakthrough, Fernandez Sala added: “The mould of the tooth was sent through Interpol and provided conclusive data. Once you have a name, it’s easier to find out because most people have a dental record. A set of teeth is like a fingerprint; it has its characteristic points. The dentition is the safe of the human body and what lasts the most at high temperatures.”
Background and Prior Missing Report
Lovas gained fame on the 2021 Hungarian edition of The Bachelor. She later grew a strong social media following. In November 2024, authorities issued a missing persons alert, locating her safe in a Playa del Ingles apartment. Her family raised the alarm again shortly before her death.
She had relocated to Gran Canaria from Hungary following a cancer battle that caused lasting psychological effects. Described as vulnerable during her earlier disappearance, investigators now believe she exhausted her funds, slept rough, and likely died elsewhere before flash floods swept her body to the ravine.
Investigation Status
Police have ruled out foul play and do not classify the case as a homicide. The rucksack find could clarify her last days, though the exact cause of death remains undetermined.
